When pizza’s on a bagel?
It may seem like an odd combination, but a yeast dough, bagel-style pizza has been served up at several popular spots in Connecticut. From New Haven to Fairfield County, pizzerias have been making the doughy dish for about a year now.
Although there is no specific definition for bagel-style pizza, it can be described as pizza dough stretched and cooked on a bagel stone. It’s typically covered in tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and other toppings such as pepperoni or mushrooms.
The origin of the pizza bagel
The bagel itself was developed in Poland, where it remains a staple food item today and can be found in abundance on city streets and at train stations throughout the country. The bagel is not only delicious, but it’s also nutritious: containing calcium, iron, magnesium and vitamin B-6. The only downside is that one large bagel contains over 350 calories; making it difficult for people on diets (such as athletes) to consume enough carbohydrates during training to recharge their muscles after strenuous activity.
Benefits of Pizza Bagels
- The bagel is the perfect vehicle for pizza
- It’s easier to transport than a pizza box
- You can store it in your fridge without having to worry about it getting soggy or losing its shape
- You don’t have to worry about getting sauce all over your fingers because you’re eating with utensils
- Bagels are delicious and so is pizza, why not combine them into one glorious food item that will revolutionize the way we eat our favorite foods?!
About Quick and Easy Pizza Bagels
Made with Simple Ingredients
Homemade pizza bagels are the perfect breakfast for any time of day. They use only 4 simple ingredients and can be ready in just 20 minutes!
A delicious bagel pizza with the toppings of your choice. What’s not to love?
What kind of cheese does one put on top, may I ask? Personally speaking (and this is just my opinion), flavorful blues like mozzarella or cheddar go really well with some jalapeno peppers mixed in there too! Garlic cloves are also recommended if you’re feeling garlicy; adding more spices will make things spicy while others prefer their pizzas mild–so select accordingly depending how much heat matters most going into dinner tomorrow night.
- Meat – Pepperoni slices, ham, bacon or ground beef.
- Cheese – Mozzarella, cheddar, provolone, parmesan or feta crumbles.
- Veggies – Green pepper, mushrooms, onions, or olives.
- Extra Spice – Jalapenos, banana peppers, pepperoncini, or a drizzle of hot sauce!
How to Make Pizza Bagels
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. You can make bagel pizzas following these three simple steps:
- Step 1 – Make Bagels
First, prepare the dough for bagels according to your favorite recipe or a store-bought mix by adding yeast and salt to warm water. If using a mix, you’ll need an egg and oil.
Knead the dough and then form it into a long, dinner roll-type shape. Cut this in half.
- Step 2 – Add Sauce and Cheese
Cover each half with sauce and cheese; add any other toppings you like (olives, pepperoni, etc.).
- Step 3 – Bake
Shape these halves into bagels. Bake these in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes at 400 degrees F. Remove them when they’re golden brown and serve immediately with your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
Tips for Reheating Pizza Bagels
Pizza bagels are a great alternative to bread that you can easily make in bulk and then wrap for quick, easy meals. They’re also freezer-friendly! To reheat: Place on foil or plasticwrap paper with an aluminum pan underneath; heat at 350°F 10 minutes – timer will go off when ready (or microwave).
Before reheating, make sure the bagel’s fresh and good. That way it won’t be stale or crumbly after you apply heat and pressure to its heart and soul. If you have a choice of size, select one that is neither too big nor too small for your mouth.

This recipe is so easy, it won’t even take you very long! All you’ll need are the following ingredients:
- One bagel. Any kind will do, though I prefer to use blueberry cream cheese.
- Oven heated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- A cup of marinara sauce. Make sure it’s heated up or you’ll end up with a watery mess.
- Spices to your liking. I like oregano and basil, but if none of those things tickle your fancy, feel free to use what you like!
- A quarter cup of shredded cheese (any kind will do).
- A quarter cup of already shredded cheese (same as above).
Now that you have your ingredients, it’s time to get all pizza up in here! What you’ll want to do is preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Put your bagel on a plate and stick the plate in the oven for about 15 minutes. The key to getting the bagel crispy is to not wrap it in aluminum foil or place it directly on the rack. You want the bagel to be crisp, but if you put it directly on the wire rack it will get soggy and gross.
When you have pizza on a bagel you can eat pizza anytime?
Pizza’s concept is that you can eat anytime, and bagels are also eaten at any time. There is no difference between pizza and bagel anymore.
Mathematically speaking, we want to introduce a new number called “pizzagel” which will represent the size of an object when it has pizza on top of a bagel.
How long do you cook pizza bagels in the oven?
The answer to that question varies greatly, because you have to take into account the bagel itself. Some are crispy, while others are chewy. The best kind is soft and flavourful, but it has nothing to do with this story.
When did pizza bagels come out?
Pizza bagels were invented in May of 2009 by a food science company called Palmetto GBA . It claimed to be the world’s first flavored bagel.
The taste of a pizza bagel was like “a pretzel, but with the flavor and texture of your favorite pizza.” Palmetto GBA also mentioned that it had tomato sauce on one side and mozzarella cheese on the other. There were reports saying that eating them made you feel like you never wanted to stop eating because they tasted so good. They could even be considered an addictive food. The company used the slogan “Get Your Mouth On A Pizza Bagel” for their new product. Soon after Pizza Bagels were invented there were many other flavored bagels such as mint chocolate chip, red velvet cake, and cinnamon sugar.
Pizza on a bagel is surprisingly delicious! And if you’re feeling adventurous this Labor Day weekend, give it a try at your next backyard BBQ or potluck gathering. You’ll be surprised by how well these seemingly incompatible foods go together.
The next time you’re craving a pizza and want to try something different than your usual slice (or pie), think about ordering one of these pizzas on a bagel. We can guarantee that it won’t disappoint!
